  7.     When a demo tape was returned by a record company addressed
  8. to "Residents," the avant-garde group gladly adopted the
  9. anonymous moniker. Seventeen years and some 20 albums later, THE
  10. RESIDENTS still won't reveal their identities, which are hidden
  11. behind masks and luminescent orbs. And without mentioning ELVIS
  12. PRESLEY by name, they pay homage to rock's biggest star on their
  13. upcoming album, The King and Eye. Synthesized, melancholy
  14. versions of Hound Dog and All Shook Up accompany a fable about
  15. a baby who became King. But, ask the unblinking eyes, King of
